Praxis Test

The Praxis test is utilized to assess persons who are entering into a teacher education program. The developer of this test also known as the Pre-Professional Skills Test. They have based this test on a means to measure the essential and immediate skills that an individual possess in the academics categories of math, reading, and writing. The Praxis test consists of mainly multiple choice questions. In the reading segment of the exam there are 46 questions that are timed and have to be finished within the 75 minute time-frame given. There are two parts in the reading section,45% critical and inferential comprehension, and the other is 55% literal comprehension. The writing component of the Praxis test consists of 44 questions, and the candidate has 38 minutes to complete them. There is also an essay segment that candidates are given ½ hour to finish in a computerized formatting. The content that makes up the writing segment is: 18.5% idiom/word choice and mechanics, 13% grammatical relationships, and 18.5% structural  relationships. The last part of the test is the math part. It contains 46 questions and must be finished in 75 minutes.

The Praxis is broken down into several components: 30% representations of quantitative information, 25% measurement, informal geometry, and formal mathematic reasoning, and 45% conceptual knowledge  and procedural knowledge. There are no tools allowed to be used during this test such as calculators. The individuals will receive their score report via mail within a month of taking the test. The passing score varies within different regions and jurisdictions.

The Praxis test is given at Thomson Prometric Facilities that are located all over the nation. The scoring scale is raw and only questions that are answered correct will be counted towards the score. It is a computerized based test, however it is smart that the individuals who are taking this test make educated guesses to help their overall performance on the test.
