DAT Test
The DAT Test is also known as The Dental Admissions Test, is an essential test that is required to be passed in order to be eligible for any dental school within the United States. It is sponsored and regulated by the American Dental Association of America. It is an exam that determines and defines an individuals skills in the realm of practicing dentistry, and is a distinct indicator of ones success in the dental trade. It is mandated that a person have attended an accredited college for at least the time of one year, before becoming eligible to take it, although most people wait until they have two years of college before opting for it.
Thompson Prometric centers are located throughout America, and they are the organization that administers the tests, regulates the scoring, and processes applications and registration for the DAT test. This test consists of four basic parts that are broken down and divided into categories of relevance. They are all multiple choice based. The four parts are: natural-based sciences, perceptual ability, reading comprehension, and quantitative reasoning.
Basic Components of the DAT Test
Natural Sciences- The natural sciences section covers the areas of biology, organic chemistry, and general chemistry. It is timed and parties are given 1 ½ hour to complete it. These questions are very difficult and include a large genre of these areas.
Perceptual Ability- This works on the manual part of the dentistry trade and is used to get an evaluation and measurement of the dexterity that one has in their hand uses that are relevant to dentistry. Representations through illustrations are provided and one has to distinguish their perceptions on different cubes, angles, the like, and projections.
Reading Comprehension- This is a timed section of the DAT test which consists of a 60 minute reading section that is a simulation of what would be considered reading material in dental school. It evaluates a person’s abilities to absorb and comprehend materials that are presented in the dentistry trade.
Quantitative Reasoning- This component of the test consists of about 40 questions that are multiple choice. It covers the subjects of trigonometry, geometry, algebra, and basic math skills.
The registration fee for the DAT test runs about $177. A person seeking to take this test can sign up for registration and pay the fee via credit card online at the ADA website. It is important that the test date os planned for in an advance of 2 days to secure a test date.
