Contractor Exam
Getting a contractor’s license is one of the best things to do in an unstable economy as it can secure your future. Licensed contractors make much more money and do not have to worry about state fines. Contractor exams vary by state – each one has different requirements. Before applying for the Contractor Exam it is necessary to have four years of experience in the class you are applying for. Class A is a general engineering contractor license, Class B is a builder’s contractor license, and Class C is specialty contractor license. Credit for experience is only given at journeyman level or as a foreman, supervising employee, contractor, or owner builder. A journeyman is a person who has completed an apprenticeship program or is a fully experienced worker. After the application to take the exam is accepted, it is likely the state the exam is in will send a packet of the next steps to take. The state will also send a confirmation of the exam date.
What to Bring to the Contractor Exam
In order to be admitted into a testing center, bring the notice to appear. Photo identification is required. All test materials like pencils, paper, calculators, and scale rulers will be provided at the test center. No cell phones, pagers, or other electronics are permitted in the testing area. The exam is done on computerized systems. The test monitor will guide all test prep takers through a short exercise so it is easy to get orientated with the computer system. The test generally takes two to two and a half hours to complete in each area being tested, though this can vary state to state.
