1) Impact of Technology

We are in the early stages of a new century, century has been all market by an explosive growth in the way of consumer technology and consumer gadgets. Many of the everyday functions that we once paid for our now easily managed through a computer, and for this reason, there are plenty of jobs that obviously made sense 20 years ago, seemingly have no place in the world today. An example would be the local video rental facility. In 1985 the idea of jumping in the car and heading down to your local Blockbuster made plenty of sense because it was really the only source for video rentals. Of course Netflix is now exponentially growing at a rate so fast that it essentially wipe video rental facilities right off the map.

The reason for this is the advancement of knowledge. It simply too easy to create a queue online and then have that queue shootout different films you like to see what that second thought, never mind wasting gas time running down to the local store.

Of course the issue that has arisen from this advancement is that the technology is wiped away plenty of jobs that were necessary in 1985.

So a short consider the impact of technology on any vocational goal you set for yourself. You need to consider the advancements of new media and imagine their impact in the future as they only grow to be more and more important in our everyday lives.

2) Impact of Outsourcing

Wages in this country continue to remain high relative to the rest of the world. Places like China continue to get a battleground for politicians throughout the West, but the simple fact of the matter is that the economic conditions and standards of living in different countries allow businesses to utilize their workforce at a cheaper rate. Thankfully inflation is driving wages higher in many Third World countries, but the fact is you still have a long way to go before they anywhere near the American standards.

Many responsible economists will say that in all likelihood either the US dollar will continue to thin out for wages will inevitably fall here in order to create some of that balance and fairness that gives the American worker a chance. That said, you’re definitely part of the generation that lived through this economic strife in this country, and it makes absolute sense to consider the likelihood of any location you may consider being outsourced. If outsourcing the work simple as setting up a computer in India are in China, that he may want to question the merit of pursuing such efforts one simple fact of the matter is that many Chinese and Indian workers are willing to work hard as you can order to provide for their respective families.

3) Demographic Response

Third and final element that you want to consider when choosing a vocation is the demographic response to the service you will inevitably provide. We are going through a demographic swing in this country as we continue to watch our largest generation, the baby boomers, grow and age and require more and more healthcare per capita. This is one of the few reasons such professions as health care have been so hot for so long in this country. Regardless of the economic slide, healthcare professions such as nursing and pharmacists have continued to show explosive growth due to the demographic shift from middle-age to old age for a giant portion of the country.

All things considered, to make sure that you address some of the above elements that go into deciding both career health and career longevity. All the best to you in your efforts.
